The album artwork I made for Arcade Fire’s full length album Funeral and the Single In the Backseat work as a cohesive set to give a glimpse into the variety, richness and amazing energy that the album contains. Although it is called Funeral, the album to me is not sad at all, but quite euphoric, energetic and empowering. The album’s sound is complex, layered and rich. I played with color, patterns, texture and layers to convey this richness and energy.
As a whole, the album is loud and energetic, but there are also some lovely soft parts. I wanted to highlight the softest song as the single to showcase the range that the album has. Titled In the Backseat, this song is the last track on the album and it is sung by a woman vocalist. It is feminine and beautiful yet still cohesive with the rest of the album. I used a similar style of pattern and color but made it softer and prettier.
